JOURNAL #3: Background and Context

For this journal entry, explain the background of your topic. Explain what the topic is about, and moreover, describe some of the context, such as who, when, and where this topic is about. For example, we talked in class about Michael Jordan't innovative slam dunk style, that had never been seen before at the time.

Since MJ, all of the great dunkers copy his style: Vince Carter, Kobe Bryant, LeBron James, and everyone else (BACKGROUND). When Michael Jordan took off towards the rim, he appeared to float, hang, turn, glide, and soar through the air and over opposing players to finally slam the ball home. This unique and innovative style inspired all dunkers and want-to-be dunkers (like me) to try his moves (CONTEXT).

I want to know some of the background and context of your planned topics. Don't forget to include your Section and ID on your post.  Aj. M

“According to the UN, a child dies from hunger every five seconds–more than the combined number that die from AIDS + TB + malaria” (Stone, 2011). Starvation and undernutrition have long been a world problem. When famine occurs, it is very hard for people in poor countries to find nutritious food. Moreover, many nutritious foods are easily spoiled and the foods that can be kept for a long time are usually lack of nutrients. People especially children needed many nutrients to maintain good health. All these problems can be solved by Plumpy’nut. Plumpy’nut is an edible stick, composed of peanuts, calories and vitamins, that is especially invented to cure starving children (Rice, 2010).

My topic is about How cultural stereotypes about people with mental disorders inspire characters in literature. I will interpret the meaning of stereotype which contain the BIAS and shape the view in different way, and how the stereotype is use and inspire in character in literature.
Because of stereotype of mental disorder, so we view the mental disorder people in different way and how literature use that idea to developed the theme of the story.
I will use the example of the Thai literature called the Judgement by Chat Kepjit and the American literature called of mice and men written by John Steinbeck. The example is the literature which had contain the mental disorder character, therefore I will use the example to illustrate how other normal character judge the mental disorder character though stereotype and how the idea of stereotype inspired literature.

    1. This is very interesting. Thinking a little more about this, it may be clearer (and narrower) to describe how literature inspires us to see the humanity in people with mental disorder, and by doing so, challenge our stereotypes.

What do you think about this?

When people buy iPods, iPhones, or other MP3 players, they will get an earphone or headphone which comes with their players. The earphone is used for privacy, and moreover, it is comfortable and small. According to Xiaotian (2012) said, “The headphones are equipped with two lines, one standard for your iPod, MP3, CD and other music devices, and a monster iSoniTalk cable has a built-in microphone and answer button. That is compatible with your iPhone, Blackberry and other music-enabled mobile phone”.

Arjan Matt, It would be great if you help me decide on which of my two topics is better. I simply have these two ideas that I think I am capable of writing in-depth about.

    Topic1: Innovation from technology

Now technology has taken the world to another step. Desktop computers used to be our main or center device that we do things such as emails, web browsing, interactive and games, but now, this revolutionary post-pc devices like the tablets pc and smartphones can do those stuff. People developed it to become more portable and more convenient. So, what’s next? What’s still missing? My topic is about how further can post-pc devices get. I will outline its impact on the society; pros and cons and how did it change many peoples’ habits.

    Topic2: Inspiration from football(soccer)

Many people are obsessed with football, it’s like their beloved club is a part of their lives. So how does this sport inspired both fans and promising young talents from both on and off the pitch. How world class players like leo Messi, C.Ronaldo, R.van Persie and S.Gerrard inspired their team, their fans and the youngsters.

    1. We spoke about this in class, but for me, both topics are good. New innovations and their effects to behaviour. Or, Football... you may consider how the World Cup inspires countries that have very little to cheer for. Spain, for example, has had a very complicated and divided country and culture for a long time, but when they won the World Cup, it united them in ways people had not expected.

My topic is about how Bob Marley becomes a popular in Reggae style or root of Reggae. Bob did not have talent in music, but he is the best one in poem. Every song he wrote is always from come his experience in Jamaican, and also he is present Jamaican routine in his song. So everybody who listens to Bob Marley song will receive experience from Jamaican and Rastafarian style. Moreover, Bob Marley always created a meaningful song. For example, Buffalo Solider that is very popular song for a long time and it has a meaning about stop a war. Bob always created a song to stop or make a poem to delete a war out of the world. In his biography book, according to Salewicz C. (2012), somebody believe that Bob Marley is a rebound of Jesus Christ (The Foreword section, para 3). So, Bob Marley is not just a singer, but he is also a one guy who has power to stop a war by his word and his song.

    Hippy culture.
The way of a group of people who prefer freedom and peace which can respond to their lives. But, hippy culture is nearly disappear now because of the period of the time. Even nowadays a group of hippy is very low, but the theory of their lives are always in the old member or new generation like me. I'm the one of people who love the way of hippy's life. The way i live belong to hippy culture. As the song from John Lennon, Imagine, who was the best example for hippy culture he sang that "Imagine all the people living life in peace". So, i think that hippy culture is the best to show all of my innovation to adapt hippy culture to my life, and all of my inspiration which are from hippy culture.

Nowadays, mobile applications are really important for smartphones. It has become increasingly important to people now comparing to the past as mobile phones are developed over time. Imagine you buy an iphone and you don’t install any applications on it, the iPhone will become worthless and you cannot do anything on it. Mobile applications and smartphones rely on each other. If there’s no smartphones, application makers won’t get any money from selling mobile applications, vice versa. Therefore, mobile applications are effectively used and sold by smartphones users and businesses.

Skype, iChat or similar softwares are no longer rare these days due to its speed and usage. These softwares are fast and cheap because you can see each other's face though it. These are softwares that you can install into your computer or device without any payment. Currently, these softwares appear to be common i both businesses and ordinary people. This is because with an internet access, you are able to use it. Moreover, if you and the person you want to meet live far away from each other, Skype or iChat are alternative choice. No need to by a plane ticket or a train ticket but just click download one of these softwares and install it in your computer. This is why video conferencing is replacing a face-to-face meeting.

Everyone, especially teenagers, goes through certain self-identifying stage of life and insight forming process. Unfortunately, difficulties rise, people find it hard to discover themselves and their perspectives towards the world. This leads to increasing number of 'catalyses' in 'inventing' oneself. One method is a new therapeutic discipline called Art Therapy. This new treatment assists people of all ages to understand their inner selves and the world and to make their personal images and developments. The young therapy sessions, purposes and applications of Art Therapy are, therefore, to be discussed as one fascinating psychological innovation.

On a cloudy evening, I was walking on the street. Then suddenly a mysterious sound was blasting all over the place, it was the beat, the sound, the music, from a tiny little store to the mall, it's everywhere. Surprisingly, it was the sound that I have always been searching for, my sound. According to (Steven Davies), music affects our emotion and heart rate and it can even make one feels "good" Quote(P.700, para1). For example, when we were buying something on the mall there is always a music playing so that it would make us more exciting. This is how music beats affect human's emotion and our reaction after listening to them.

  14. Philipe Starck.
He is a well known French Product and interior designer and have design many objects ranging from a simple Chair to a sophisticated Motocycle. However, Philippe Starck specialty isn't in the range of project he did, but it's about how he redesign normal looking object and manipulate the shape of that object to become more aesthetically pleasing. His imaginative and futuristic like design have inspired many designer to become even more innovative, therefore arises a huge question from my mind, where does he gets all of his ideas from and what drives Philipe Starck to push his imaginative mind to create an innovation and inspiring product.

We are living in a new world where everyone is equal, even if you're poor or rich, or where money does not necessarily implies you power anymore. Today, social network is a big rise in our world of technology. Facebook, twitter, or youtube are what matter the most to people in this generation. Imagine the world where people have equal power and they can do whatever they want with it. Youtube is a website where people can post any video and share with the world. Kony Joseph, a war leader criminal in Uganda, has been made famous, or in the case, has been made notorious by a group of people through youtube and other social networks. They use the power of social network to gain people's support of arresting Kony. The video, that was shared on youtube, about kony and his guilt has been the fastest spreading video ever and has gained my any support in a short amount of time.

Imagine the world without transportation, no bus, van, taxi, tuk tuk, motorcycle, MRT and BTS. All of those public transportations are useful. Most people go from place to places by using the public transportations. Nowadays, transportation seems not enough compare to the passengers. ………..(I will find the percentage) is living in Bangkok. Most of them came into city to work. They properly uses public transportations to go to work, however, traffic jam still occur. That means people still using a lot of personal vehicles. One of the major reasons is that the public transportation is not efficient enough. The government need to improve the public transportation system in Bangkok.

    My topic is social network

In the past, there is no any technology available at that time. People in the past lived simplely, and noy much convenient things. For example, you can see it obviously in communication. people send letter to each other, and it will take so long time, so it is quite hard to contact if they stay so far. However, nowadays, technologies like social network have become the most important things in daily life of people in many ways, and it makes people's lives easier.

E-book is a new method that quietly come to our daily lives , while books demand go down. This may because books are uncomfortable to carry around and may create global warming by deforestation. In this essay I will illustrate the advantages and disadvantages of using E-book instead of paper books and iPad will be an example in this case. I will not say which one is better but I will describe both sides of them and let children decide which one that they are expect.

In the past, human could know how many days or weeks passed by recording, and they could instinctively recognize a day or night by rising and falling of the sun. Unfortunately, it was not accurate and very limited. Furthermore, they did not know actual time they lost in every their daily activities. Human attempted to create a method helping them to measure exact time in 1 day. Consequently, the evolution of a clock was started from sundial clocks, mechanical clocks, and then it finally has become quartz clocks which are ubiquitously used in the present (Chaudhary, 2007).

  25. Have you ever thought that our behavior causes a lot of problems to our world? Nowadays, we burn and use lots of fossil fuels such as coal, oil, and natural for a massive amount of energy without thinking about the consequences. It is widely accepted that all of these fossil fuels mostly are non-renewable resources. These types of resources are limited, run out very quickly, and leave behind harmful products which cause a lot of pollution. This pollution leads to global warming which have a large impact on living things on the earth, so it is the time to make a change. We need to find alternative resources which give the same amount of energy without pollutng the earth.

To be better health, let’s quit smoking.

Nowadays more people increasingly die from cigarettes; therefore, it is
necessary for people to know the danger of smoking and attract smokers to
quit it. Like heroine or cocaine, nicotine is a drug that is naturally found in
tobacco. When smokers inhale smoke, nicotine goes deeply through their
lungs and is quickly absorbed into the bloodstream and goes through their
bodies. That leads to bad health; as a result, it is essential for all smokers how
to quit it, for non-smokers how to persuade and cheer them up, and for all
people to know how to treat themselves healthily.

Using flash drives and Bluetooth are one of the most common ways to convey information. However, losing flash drives, infected to virus, and data are damaged by some signal are quite prevalent and those affect many people. On Friday 25th of March 2012, I went to shopping mall and there were two people tapped there phones together. One uses Samsung Galaxy Nexus and the other person uses Sony Xperia S, both phones have a brand new technology called NFC. Its full form is Near Field Communication. Not many people know this innovation, but one thing that makes NFC near is because of its operation range, not more than 4 centimeters (“What Is NFC?,” n.d.).This innovation is not quite new to our society, but not many people know about its function or how it functioning.

  30. I focus on innovation in photography production.
In the past, photography was taken in black and white and it was a film camera. When the time passed, a color film was innovated, and finally, a digital photography is the newest innovation in photography production now. Thus, the body of the essay is going to be about what photography will be developed in the future and how it will affect to the society.
