In this edition of ERS, the theme is Health & Nutrition. We will explore different ideas related to health, lifestyle, diet, and so on. It is my hope that throughout the term, you will each find an aspect of this theme that motivates you and that you can write about.For this journal blog, we will continue our class discussions online, where you can respond to readings and make your own contributions. If you're shy to speak in class, I hope you won't be shy here.
As a first entry, which we'll call Journal Blog #1, please write and say what subject or area do you consider yourself a kind of expert or very knowledgeable. For me (for example), I think I know a lot about fitness and training, as I have been a competitive athlete for a long time. This is an area that I know a lot about and have coached other people about in the past, particularly in swimming. Please share what it is you know as an introduction to who you are.

ReplyDeleteI know it might seem strange but my friends called me as a "manga-expert"(the word "manga" means "japanese comics"). They called me like that because they saw the picture of my room. That picture was taken when the flood come. It looks like some kind of a "manga-storage" with a bed in it. I needed to move every book I got to the higher floor , that's why. (I have deleted that picture from my Facebook already. LOL) So after that , when they are interested in some of the manga , they will ask me. Because they know that there is a chance that I might read it. I can't deny , it is a fact. So , everytime I finished reading new arrival manga , I will post a "short-review" about it on my classroom's group which is a private group. Just for fun. LOL
That is very cool. I have to say that I don't quite understand manga, but it seems people who like it are crazy about it (maybe you too). This is a good post. Thanks for this.

ReplyDeleteIn my opinion, I think I know a lot about editing a video and film. These are my passionate because I got a chance to study in a fine art school in Indiana last couple years ago. I particularly edit only a crazy video with my friends not a serious one. I have been in some of my videos too which you can find it on Youtube if you want to. Last but not least, these things could not be happened if my friends did not inspire me as well. Nice to meet you Mr.Matt and I hope we will have a good time together in the entire school semester.

I consider myself good in drawing. I was sent for art classes since I was little where I learned basic art and became interested in drawing. Sketching is something I like to do during my free time. I can draw in any place, at any time, all I need with me is a headphone and my MP3. Animation drawing is my specialty. I participated in many competitions that were held in my school or other schools(Inter-School Competition) and never came back empty handed. I also have collection of many drawings from childhood till today. I have come to realise that drawing helps gain inner peace.
In short, I love drawing.

ReplyDeleteI think I'm pretty good in playing piano. I've been continuously playing and practicing it for 11, since I was 5. I've participated in all kinds of competition and exam. Furthermore, this year I am taking the last exam to become accredited and qualified as a piano teacher. For me, playing piano is part of my life. And I find it very relaxing and enjoyable.
This is something I wish my parents made me do when I was a kid. I love music, but cannot play much.

I remember when i was young, and enegetic. Me and my friends always play soccer together everyday after school. At that time I can say that we kind of "obsessed" with it, meaning that we're always looking for anything related to soccer, soccer magazine, soccer video game, even soccer lessons found on Youtube. Since in that moment I'm really into soccer, it influences what profession i want to take. Yeah sad but true, I want to be a soccer player.

When someone taste my food and they like it I feel very happy.I have been participate in some cooking classes to learn more about culinary arts. The reason why i choose Tourism and Hospitality management as my major is because they offers Culinary arts. Also tasting food is what I like. ReplyDeleteHello Mr.Matthew and classmates. My name is Weerapong Pinijsakkul or everyone may feel free to call me Sun. I think I am being expert on managing the business, as I had run the business since I was 13 years old.
My first business was selling top-up cards for online game and mobile balance. I sold those cards to my workers, classmates and sometime my neighbours too, as my village didn't have seven-eleven or any convenient shops nearby on that time.
Until when I was 15, I changed my product from selling the top-up cards to selling artificial brand T-Shirts. However, this time seems to be unsucceed because I forgot to think about the customer's demands which are too much to be analysed.
3 months later after my failure, my friends called me. Their names are Ice and Max. They invited me to be one of the CEO of their BB Gun shop (they really said that). They said they believe in my managing business skill and experience (as they saw me selling the top-up cards and T-Shirts). My job is I have to analyse the market monthly and looking after the customers.
On that time I didn't know I could do it or not but I just say 'Yes' because I would like to give a try. If I can do, then I do it but if I can't, then I can stop. However, the condition that I have to follow was I had to invest about 20% of business value (60,000 bahts). Let's imagine, the 15 years old boy investing 60,000 bahts into the business and another two boys about 17-18 years old going to invest 120,000 bahts each. In conclusion, three teenagers are going to manage 300,000 bahts business.
So I had to think and really hard too. I had to think about reliability of my friends, probability of the success and the products (as I have to analyse). I used about three days and answered "Yes" to them. Therefore we met together and sign the contract.
Being honest, first while of time seems to be difficult, as the customers hadn't realised about us. They thought our products were low. However, my friends had advertise on the internet and proof them by taking the photo on each part of the gun. Therefore, the number of customers began to rise.
From that day when I picked up my friends' call until now, it was 2 and a half years already. I had learned many things as business owner or my friends like to call us "CEO". I had learned how to run the business, especially the market analyse as I have to do it month by month and many things.
I don't know from my experience everyone can regard me as being expert on managing the business or not but in my opinion, I think I may.
Not many people have a story like this. It takes a lot of bravery and risk... I don't have that. This is certainly a unique skill.

ReplyDeleteI like to play guitar, that's why I think guitar is my most expert skill. I used to have a band back in high school. My band members and I once participated in the school music band show. I thought it was a good one. While we were on the stage playing songs, everyone sang along and were having fun. After the show, we had got positive responses from the audiences. Although, I'm majoring in food-science, and playing guitar does not associate with that field. But I think music can relieve stressful from study so easily. Besides, I always enjoy playing guitar everywhere, and every time.

I start playing with the plastic model very long time. It is very fun to build something up with your own hand, also you can change the color and posture with your own imagination.In my opinion, building up plastic model is one of the best hobby, it make you practice to concentrate on something for a period of time and also make you use your imagination.

ReplyDeleteI think I'm quite advance in the field of Asian history and traditional (especially Chinese and Japanese). Since I was young, I usually spending my time on reading and understanding some Chinese literary masterpieces from my dad's bookshelf such as 'The Three Kingdoms' ,'108 Stars of Destiny' and 'Battle of Sekigahara'. When I grew up, I'm also spending my free times reading through E-books and watching online documentaries mostly from National Geographic and History channels. In addition, I was reading through modern histories such as WW2 events and keeping up with recently global events too.
This is one of my hobbies too... I like this.

I think I am the expert in losing weigh, because I used to lose 22 kilograms. Since I was born, I always be fat, but then one day it came to the peak. It happened when I was in high school. After cam back from the holidays trip, my weight rose up to 71~72 kilograms! And it really shocked me. So I tried for 100 ways to lost my weigh. I used to take diet pills, but it caused the bad effects to my body. I became resentful person, and my heart beat fast like I was going to die. One night I cannot stand this effects anymore, so I told my mother and she took me to the hospital, Good luck that I got better soon. After tried a bad way and it did not work that good. I started again, but I did it in a right way. I created a diary of what food I should eat and what nutrition I will get from the food, how much exercise should I work per day, and I shorted down the calories of the food. I exercised 90 minutes per day and eat a good food in high-carb program. I searched a lot of tricks from the internet. I can tell you that I am a 100 losing weigh-tricks queen. After 5~6 months I succeed in losing weigh. And this is all I want to tell you about what I am the expert.
You should write a book! Many people will want to know your secret. (Me too.)

I always read it whenever I'm free from work especially at lunch and before I'm off to bed. ReplyDeleteI cannot say that I am very expert in any particular or specific subjects, but I might know some basic information for some subjects including business and investment, photography, photo retouching computer. All of these subjects are my interesting subjects. Firstly, since I was a child, I spent a lot of time on computer for both basic software and hardware. I was able to use Microsoft office, Macromedia Dreamweaver and Adobe Photoshop, and I was familiar with formatting and reinstalling Windows because it was the easiest way when I struggled with computer viruses. Next, when I was in high school, I was interested in taking photographs by DSLR camera, but the prices of the camera and lens were very expensive, and I found that in order to take a nice picture, it has several processes. Finally, because my father was successful in stock investment, he supported me to be a stock investor whether as a primary or secondary occupation. Therefore, I decide to study Business Economics Major because I want to be able to analyze all aspects of any business and to understand trends of economic development. I think I cannot give you whole and deep information, but I can talk about key or idea concepts in these fields.

ReplyDeleteI don't think i am an expert in any field but i do have an interest in playing bowling. It started last year when i was in America trying to look for clubs and sports. After making up my mind for a long time on the activities I should play, I decided to play bowling. Because this sport is very new to me and sounds fun. I played it 4 days a week, Monday to Thursday, and sometimes I got a chance to play against the other schools in my district on Friday. At first bowling is very hard for me and sometime kind of annoying because I always roll in ball in the hole along the sides of the lane. But as time passed, I begin to be good at it. My score begin to move higher and higher. And up to now, my highest score is 164. After coming back from America, I still love to play it with my friends and family and try to play as much as possible to be an expert in this field which I really love.
Ah... I hate bowling... I used to play a lot with friends, but I've never been good. I hate losing, so I can't bowl anymore!

This is the sport that i find myself good at because I have played this sport for like 6 years and from this six-year experience I know quite a lot about the basketball technique. I am inspired by two of the greatest basketball players from Miami Heat named Dwayne Wade and Dwright Howard from Orlando magic. These two people make me want to be like them because they are very out-standing in the game and show some superb skills.When they try to make scores from shooting, it is like " they just put a ball into the hoop " because These two players shoot very accurately.
I used to be a member of the basketball team in my former school and competed in many basketball tournaments including international games that we have competed against other international school from abroad. Moreover, I also have challenged in many street basketball competitions which had been held by the energy drink company and the organisation who provide a place of the competition for us such as Vita-milk, Sponsor energy drink, S'Club,and many more.I can say that this physical recreation is becoming one part of my life that I cannot stop playing it !!
Basketball is also my first love. I grew up watching Michael Jordan, but now I think I'm a Kevin Durant fan. Go OKC!

My favorite hobby for leisure time, besides school, is training and learning martial arts for knowledge in different ways. From my perspectives, martial arts are knowledge of science and philosophy that are benefits to the practitioners. For the science benefits, the martial arts’ practitioners are actually have more physical control than untrained people. Moreover, every martial art has their style to present philosophies which are very important to live as a moral person. ReplyDeleteI'm interested in fiction and I always read it at night or when I am tired of something. Greek mythology is my favorite fiction , thus I give precedence to it more than others but I don't think that that I'm an expert. Video games and some novels such as Percy Jackson and God of War are my inspiration so I started to find out more information after playing those games and reading those books. In my opinion , the storyline is complicated but also very attractive but some of them are different depending on the authors. When I was in secondary 5 , I have to learn about foreign history including Greek mythology. Therefore , I can do the test perfectly and I also acquire a lot of knowledge . I practice my reading skill by reading these stories because I prefer the original one more than the one which is translated into Thai. The story gives me not only pleasure , but also precious morals which I can utilize them in my daily life.
These stories and myths go very deep into lives and cultures... its impossible not to be inspired by them when we get to know them. I really like this.

I don't think I'm an expert in any fields or subject, but I always like swimming. For me, I think swimming can be both leisure and a sport. Since I was a child, I always enjoyed swimming and I could swim for hours. I wasn't afraid of the water at all while most children is frightened at first sight. When I grew a bit older, I started to take swimming classes, but that didn't last long because the teacher didn't think I was taking it seriously enough. Every year in school, we had a swimming competition where everybody had to attend. We were divided into groups and we had to swim against each other. I had to swim against someone who was really good and competitive and was known to be one of the best. On my final round, I reach the finish line with great difficulty. I couldn't believe myself because it was so close, but I was very proud and that it taught me to not give up. I haven't swum for a long time, but I still miss it quite a lot. Unfortunately, I haven't had the chance to continue the practice, but I am still trying to discover myself and find out what it is, that I am good at doing.
Swimming is a special sport because of this. It is a big challenge, but very rewarding when we can do it. I love the water.

ReplyDeleteIt would be a lie if I tell you that I'm an expert in any particular areas, but I'm very interested in Scuba diving. First of all, this hobby came to my mind 3 years ago when I visited Maldives for a vacation. The reception of the hotel suggested me to take a Scuba diving course, but my time wasn't suitable with the course. After I went back to Thailand, I started to take a Scuba diving course. Within a month, I had accomplished the course including a Scuba diving test, which allows me to dive both domestic and international district. Now, I have been under the water for over 150 hours, which I expect it to increase rapidly. My plan is to become a dive master, which require me to pass a extremely tough test, so during this time I wish that I would get better every time that I dive.
This is one water sport that I have never done. I think I'd be afraid to go too deep, but I envy you that you can do it.

I used to be a competitive fencer, people that have the wire thingy tied on their back when fencing, in saber class. I am pretty good in Web Development and IT related stuffs but I don’t consider myself as an expert. I don’t think anyone can be an expert, at least on my field, because there are so much more to learn as the technology grows. I start to gain interest in Computing and technologies when I and my friend were playing an online game, around age 11-12, and we wanted to form a gaming community. So I start to learning from how to create a website to having a gaming server of my own. I have gained a lot of experiences from administrating and programming the server. Since then I developing and learning new skills set to improve my knowledge. Now as I am a Computer Science student at MUIC, on my free times I will work as a freelancer on a well-known freelancing website.

ReplyDeleteHi, I'm nut. As I work as a audiovisual aids staff for my school for 3 years, I know a lot about sound systems, video systems, and photography. What I think I am an expert is in photography. In my high school, I took a lot of photos from many school events held throughout the year. I've collected many photo albums in my Facebook account. The reason that makes me love taking photograph is that any moments captured will last forever. I also print and keep them in my paper album. Some are sticked on the wall in my home. Every time I walks pass these stuffs, it recalled those moments. It maybe happiness, sadness, but whatever they are it is great for me to have such a great chance to capture it. ReplyDeleteHi Matthew. I'm Yusuke. Selecting food seems to be the best expertise for me because nowadays, thousands of people in Thailand are confronting various kinds of diseases deriving from food. Additionally, intestine cancer is considered to be the most common disease in Thailand. Food not only help humans to grow but also bring a death. From this reason, I have to choose the best choice in order to avoid those severe diseases. The reason why I have to choose meals is the low sanitation of food in Thailand. To emphasize, Thais usually have lunch at street food which has a low level of sanitation. Those street food do not concern about the health of consumers, and they usually focus on how much money they can get. For example, a street food cook always use their hands without gloves to keep money from consumers and then uses that hands to cook it again meaning that consumers will get the bacteria and virus from those food directly.

I started learning by myself from the Internet, after being inspired by a dance crew, Jabbawockeez. I started dancing C-walk and Shuffle. After 2-3 years of experience, I joined the Shuffling crew, named HSF(Hardstyle Freaks), Singapore&Malaysia. I started to make new friends and discover new dance. I find Popping interesting and started learning. My dance nickname is RoboticBlue. I do robot dance, and I've been Popping til today..
