In this journal blog post, show your summary of multiples as we read in the Malcolm Gladwell's essay, In the Air. In the essay, three stories are presented: 1) Myhrvold, Horner, and the dinosaur bones; 2) Bell, Gray, and the telephone; and 3) Myhrvold and Intellectual Ventures.
For a good summary, you need to define the idea of multiples and use the examples of these three stories to support that definition. Choose your supporting details carefully. Don't change the meaning. Write it in your own words.
The best examples will be reviewed in class. Remember to include your ID# in your post. Aj. M
Some event seems inevitable, it must happen, it only requires some amount of time before it will happen and it doesn’t mean that the event must happen in only one place. This is what the concept of multiples is about. We could see example of this concept in many famous events such as the invention of the telephone, where two people with no connections at all discover the same thing at almost the same time, the discovery of some dinosaur bones, represent how people just needed some amount of time to find it, or even the Intellectual Ventures, a group of smart people coming together to think of new things and patent them. From all of these examples we could understand that something or event could happen at any time and anywhere, it could be at the same time but different places with totally different inspiration.

ReplyDeleteWe already known the definition of "multiple" that is many people have the same ideas but in different places. Steve Jobs, for example, is the guy who invented computer, but if he did not invent it, there would absolutely be someone to found it at the same time. According to these 3 stories, Gladwell shows us that there are some people in each story think the same way, but there are in the different moments or in same moments. The first story shows that the old citizens found only 18 bones in 90 years, but Myhrvold team found 9 bones in only 9 years. It shows us that in the century, there were people who had the same destination, but in the different time. The second story is about 2 people who discover the telephone, Bell and Gray. The story tells us that Bell and Gray had the same idea in the same time, but not in the same moment. The last one is about Intellectual Ventures that had many smarters tried to create insight in the same time. All in all, all of these stories shows the readers that multiple is the phenomenon that can happen in anytime, anywhere, but it can be in the various places.

In the world are many things, including what is already discovered and not yet; however, at last all of them must be found or invented unavoidably. Sometime, the findings may be done by two groups of people at nearly time. These are called "multiples." For example, dinosaur bones found by Nathan Myhrvold with a paleontologist Jack Horner's team, if they did not found that time, others will eventually; one of the greatest innovations of the world, a telephone, was invented by Alexander Graham Bell simultaneously when Elisha Gray also succeeded creating it; insights were created by Intellectual Ventures, the company full of genius people established by Myhrvold. If you have creative and unique ideas for something, you should not hesitate to do it because you may be the greatest inventor ever.

DeleteIt is a situation of discovery or inventor that is unavoidable, and it might happen at the same time with different people and places. It can be stated that there may be other people in all direction are discovering in the same things. All of these are an explanation of “multiples”. To be more precise, there are three examples of the situation of multiples. Firstly, Nathan Myhrvold and Jack Horner, who were discovered dinosaur bones. Even if they were not look hard enough, eventually they still found the dinosaur bones. Another situation was an invention of telephone that was simultaneously discovered by two people, Bell and Grey, in the different places. Lastly, Intellectual Ventures (I.V.), which is a company that combines an intelligent people to create patent insight. All of these examples can demonstrate the definition of “multiples”. If these people were not founded, they certainly might be other people in elsewhere were discovered or inventoried it.

Some people said great minds do think alike and this theory may have been proven right by the phenomenon called "multiples", the discovering of inventions by different people at nearly the same time. By looking at the following examples, we would understand more. In 1999, Nathan Myhrvold teaming with Jack Horner found dinosaur fossils more than any team that ever set foot in Montana. In 1876, Alexander Graham Bell was as close as losing the name world first telephone's inventor as Elisha Gray came up with the same idea, and in 2003, Myhrvold gathered many geniuses to form a company that files innovation ideas. Though, an idea on a cancer filtrating machine may already have been proceeded, it didn't change the fact that insights can be made. Multiples are somewhat inevitable, it's occurred to us that the basis of knowledge might have been around us all this time. Eventually, Someone will figure a way to put it together and most of the past time more than one did.

Multiple is the phenomenon of simultaneous discovery. In addition, some people might invent the same things at around the same time ,but these people weren't related to each other. Thus, although you didn't create new innovation, eventually, there is some one else does it.For example, from the first anecdote,Horner and Myhrvold weren't the ones who found dinosaur bones. There are others found before. From the second anecdote, while Bell was inventing a telephone,Gray was, also, inventing a telephone. From the last anecdote,Myhrvold hired the smartest people he knew to work together for making insights. They had had the same goal. These anecdotes show us that there are many people, regardless of where they are, that think the same as you and may do what you do.

There are many new inventions or discoveries in the world that might occur simultaneously, but in different places. When inventors can create new things, others might invent it at the same time with no connections between them. Furthermore, people cannot circumvent these circumstances. These situations called "multiples". To explain more, there are 3 examples of the "multiples". Firstly, Nathan Myhrvold and Jack Horner can found 9 bones of dinosaurs including rare parts of dinosaur bones in only 9 years in spite of the previous dinosaur bones using around 90 years to find only 18 bones. Secondly, Gladwell wrote that Alexander Graham Bell and Elisha Gray invented telephone simultaneously even they never knew each other before. Thirdly, Nathan Myhrvold gathered many genuis people to join the Intellectual Ventures, the company that has business about patents insight. To conclude, every invention can be happen at the similar time, but there will be occur in different places and the ways of create new inventions will dissimilar.

According to the article, the definition of multiples is that people can share the same ideas at the same time in the different places without connection between them. What all these three stories share similarities are discovery such as dinosaurs bones and new inventions. For the first example, discovery of Myhrvold and Horner found 9 bones within 9 years but 18 bones had been found by earlier generation within 90 years. It is obvious that dinosaurs bones were discovered in the country with different people and time. Secondly, Bell and Grey came up with the invention of telephone. They are from different places but have the same ideas. The other story is related to intellectual ventures. It is about many geniuses that made strong efforts to build insight in the same duration. On the whole, these three examples can clearly give readers the meaning of multiples. It is the phenomenon that if people still have not discovered or had come with an idea about something, someone else would do so either sooner or later.

New inventions that were created at slightly the same time by different groups of people from different parts of the world can be defined as multiples. It is said that although a computer does not exist, in the future, there will be some intelligent people who will definitely invent it. For instance, Bell and Grey invented telephones from different places without any connection between both of them. Nathan and Jack also excavated for fossils and they successfully found a lot of them. It means that everybody can also be a famous excavator because there were millions of fossils for you to find underneath the ground. Myhrvold conveyed many intelligent people to create patent insights and additionally these people came out with many ideas during a short session. These instances may clarify the definition of multiples more deeply.

The definition of "multiples", in this case, is an idea that something such as innovation, invention, so on are waiting for someone to found it. For example, Nathan Myhrvold and Jackhorner found many dinosaur bones, but if they did not found the bones that day, others will found it eventually. Moreover, some inventions were found by some inventors at the near time, although they do not know each other, and live in different places in the world. For example, Alexander Graham Bell and Elisha Grey both invented telephone at the same time form different places. In short, according to this article, multiples means the idea that new innovation, invention, dinosaur bones, and so on are belong to anyone who put more enough effort in order to get them

The phenomena of discoveries or inventions that happened simultaneously by different people, who do not have any connection between them, at the different places, and it is also the situations that are unavoidable which means that if these people did not find, someone else would have. As a result, this was called the 'multiples'. As the three stories, they illustrated the meaning of the 'multiples'. For example, Nathan Myhrvold and Jack Horner met each other with their same purpose. They formed team and found nine dinosaur bones within nine years. The year earlier the 18 dinosaur bones were found by other people. therefore, this is the 'multiples' situation that are inevitable.

Mulitiples; an event that happen at the same time and being discovered by different people at the similar time. There are 3 examples of multiples in the discoveries of dinosour bones, telephone and insights. Firstly, jack Horner and Nathan Myhrvold went to explore the Montana badland in the earnest and found a dinosour bones the size of truckload. This is an example of multiples because it's inevitable, eventhough Myhvold didn't discover the bone someone eles will. Secondly, the invention of the telephone. Bell was not the only one who gave the presentation of the telephone at that time.Elisha Gray also invented the telephone. Lastly, mahvold formed a company called IV. They came up with its cancer-filter idea and someone used to come up with this idea already.

There are many inventions around the world which are found by couple or some people in the same time, but they state in different places called Multiple. Moreover, if something cannot be discovered at that time, others will find it anyways. In other words, it is inevitable. The first example of this is that there are two people, Nathan Myhrvold and Jack Horner. They formed a team to find dinosaur bones. They found 27 bones overall. However, many people have tried finding this bone, but no one can eventually find it except these two guys. Another example is an invention of telephone simulation which discovered by two people name Bell and Grey. The last example of this is that many geniuses people think to make an insight at the same time. All of the examples above are clearly show that Multiple is not just a random situation, but it is a situation that the world cannot avoid.

DeleteThe definition of “multiples” is somewhat widely, but they can sum up into one meaning. Multiples is the phenomenon of contemporary discoveries. It could happen in the same period of time but in the different places and inventors do not know each other directly. There are 3 obvious examples to support this phenomenon. Firstly, Nathan Myhrvold, Jack Horner and their teams have been able to find nine dinosaur bones in Montana since 1999 until now. However, if they did not delve in this area, dinosaur bones would be delved by other expeditions. Secondly, telephone was invented simultaneously by two people, Alexander Graham and Elisha Gray. Lastly, Nathan Myhrvold constructed Intellectual Ventures which compiles smart inventors together and they can invent a lot of technologies for the company. Therefore, this phenomenon would happen unavoidably and they just have to try hard enough for finding or inventing something.

From the past until now, there are so many things that are discovered. Human works hard to invent a lot of new things. Sometimes, it is not only one person who discovers new things but others do it as well at the nearby time. This phenomenon is called the "Multiples". For instance, dinosaur bones were found by the explore team of Nathan Myhrvold and Jack Horner, if their team did not find those bones, someone else will; the telephone was invented by Alexander Graham Bell and Elisha Gray at the very same time; insights were made by Intellectual Ventures, the firm which has a lot of smart people established by Nathan Myhrvold. These are a few examples of multiples. Multiples can happen at any time and any where. If we do not discover new things or theories, finally, someone else will find them. As everything is meant to be found. It's inevitable.

when the word "mulitiples'' comes across our mind,in terms of discoveries, we would visualize the coalescence of many inventors perform countless inventions or discoveries. It is unavoidable that there is occasionally a time when different person invent the same object. To begin with,in the passage about multiples, Graham Bell and Elisha Gray came out with the exactly the same idea about telephone invention and .Next, there is an example of Nathan Myhrvold brings many intellegents together to interact and present many idea which useful for his own company. What's more, the story of dinnosaur bones discoveries demonstrates that people can discover the undiscovered the goods if they have determinations to process or finish the work.In a nutshell, things require efforts and time to be done and that represents that it is evitable.

A phenomenon of simultaneous discoveries is called "multiples". Some examples supporting the concept of multiples are as follows. Nathan Myhrvold and Jack Horner discovered 9 dinosaur bones in just a few years where the World took 90 years finding only 18 bones. Moreover, Nathan Myhrvold formed Intellectual Ventures, a company that joins smart and innovative people together to make and patent insights. Another example would be how the invention of telephone was done by two people, Alexander Graham Bell and Elisha Gray, but we only recognize Bell because he got the patent first. Therefore multiples explain to us that even if the geniuses weren't the one to discover, some other intelligent people would eventually. They just need to put in more determination and time in it.

Delete"Multiples" is about inevitable discoveries that are discovered by different people around the same time. There are three anecdotes that proves this concept. One of them is when Nathan Myhrold discovered dinosaur bones in Monatana when other people weren't finding them. This shows that people did not search as hard enough as Myhrold. Another similar example is when Alexander Graham Bell and Elisha Gray invented the telephone simultaneously. If both of them had not devised the telephone, someone else would. Also, when Myhrvold gathered geniuses to join Intellectual Ventures, they were able to produce many ideas and patent them. In conclusion, new innovations and inventions are unavoidable. It only depends on how hard people think to create new ideas.

DeleteThe discoveries are inevitable, even if one person/group doesnt discover it, the others will eventually discover it sooner or later. The dinosaurs bones were buried under the ground however,if Homer and Myhrold group hasnt found it some other group will eventually do. If Alexander Graham Bell did not exist, the world would still have the telephone, but the nickname for it wouldnt be Ma Bell. If Nathan had not gathered bunch of genuises together the world would still have lots of collective ideas a year. Therefore the discoveries are inevitable. #5580884
