In class, we have been looking at different ways at developing an Intro. Gladwell started with an anecdote. Squires started by providing some background about Caravaggio and the techniques he used. Hook started with shocking statistics about the incredible prices of paintings at auctions...Consider the two example topics we looked at in class: the important skills learned from art class and the sexual exploitation of young women in the music industry. Think about the example Introductions we have studied, analyzed, and reviewed. With regards to these topics, what would be the best way to introduce your reader to the topic and narrow the idea down to a clear thesis statement.

As people claim that to express their feelings or thoughts through art has no correct or wrong, majority of people use the word 'art' to cover a main content of their works up. The pop music and sexually explicit video released recently by singers like Miley Cyrus are not examples of art as much as they are examples of the music industry exploiting the sexuality of young women.

However, some people misunderstand about the concept of art, and they think it is useless and not skilful for the future. Conversely, art actually give us visual learning skills and fundamental skills. While art class is being cut from school budgets, people fail to see the essential skills students get from learning art subject.
Art leads us to expand our imagination to enable to express our thoughts and emotions freely. It is believed that art is a matter of freedom, with harmony and colours, which involves no criticism and discrimination. However, nowadays music industries are starting to attract the audiences by sexually exploiting of a young women or even an artist. It is questioned, how did an art become such an embarrassment to the society, where no harmony is contributed with the music but with sexuality? Thus, what is an art for this generation?

However, the most shocking video that i have seen lately was a video of a little girl dancing in a sexy way, copying dance moves from an adult song. Technology makes music videos of young women dancing easy to access. Some people argue that this is female empowerment, but others say that this exploits young women in a sexual way; so, who is right? The music industry can benefit from negative publicity. For instance, Madonna, who is a famous singer, made millions for the music industry by releasing her sexy music videos. What message does this send to young women? It can be clearly seen that main subjects such as Mathematics, Science and Languages are more important and useful for children lives and their future careers. Therefore, many people thought that it is unnecessary for students to study art. ReplyDeleteWhen I was young, my parent paid extra money for me to spend 8 hours per week to study art class. My first class I drew circles over and over again to make it perfect as much as possible, why? I don't know. However, I learn to be patience, confidence, and concentrate. ReplyDeleteIt is hard to draw the line when it comes to art. How can you tell when you cross that line? What most people would say is that music is art and art is never right or wrong. But when it contain an inappropriate message such as nudity motion picture, do we call that are or something that the societies should pay more attention and band in the music industry. Sure it's catch people attention but does it worth the risk of sending bad messages to our future generation?
