Journal Blog #1: Becoming a leader.

Welcome to the course and to the ERS journal blog. Over the term, you will be asked to share your reflections on topics we're discussing in class on the blog. I will write my own contributions to the blog, and I'll work to respond to your comments as we go.

For this term, our theme is Leadership. For this first journal blog, I would like to get your view on how a person becomes a leader. We can look at many examples of people becoming a leader by many ways: by accident, by necessity, by ambition, or by luck. A CEO may build his or her company from scratch and show great leadership in doing it. However, the son or daughter of the CEO may inherit that same company later and not know how to lead it. Are people born leaders? Can anyone become a leader? Are some people just not capable to be a leader? Feel free to respond to any of these ideas.

I'm looking forward to reading your thoughts. Make sure that you include your ID# in your post.

    Is everyone a leader?
In my point of view, my answer of course is YES and NO. It also depends on how people define the word 'leader'. Some people might think that being a leader is better than a follower because they have special abilities of leadership. They can control a team and set goal for the future. Also, they can explain these goals to others in particular ways. However, sometimes it is better to be a follower and support the leader rather than trying to take over the leader's role. Some people do not want to put themselves at a greater risk when they do something wrong. :)

    1. With leadership comes power and responsibility. You are responsible when you're right and when you're wrong.

Some people are born to be leaders. They were born to have abilities of controlling people, confidence, motivation etc. However, people who have leadership might not become leaders, instead people who do not have abilities might become one accidentally, necessity etc. but surely they are not good ones because they do not have ability to.

    1. Well I can think of many examples of accidental leaders who later proved to be great because they had no choice. What do you think?

In my opinion, i think not all people are born to be leaders. However, every people can do it well if they get well-trained. I think the CEO will not give his own company to descendants until they get enough experiences. Also, I would say that all people have a capability to be leaders. It depends on how much they much they work and try on that profession.

    1. I wonder if there are some situations we can prepare for. Training and experience seem to be what we look for in our leaders for sure.

can anyone become a leader? In my opinion, i think anyone can become a leader. However, it depends on the person too. If the person really wants to become a leader and struggle for it, i think he or she can become one. Not everyone are born with the qualities of a leadership, but that isn't a big issue, they just have to try harder than others.

    1. Trying harder than others is usually a big issue. Not many people put the effort in that they need to.

Can anyone become a leader? In my point of view, I think no, they do not because to become a leader, it depends on many factors such as knowledge, money or chance. For example, some people have a lot of knowledge in their career but they do not get a chance to become a leader because the owner of that company may choose people who are close to or his own son to be a leader instead. Thus, in my opinion, not everyone can become a leader because it depends on many factors.

    1. Yes... there are many factors that may be fair or not, and maybe the best person for the leadership job is always the one to get it (because of many factors).

It is definite that not all humans are meant to be leaders. With leadership comes great responsibility, and although one might have the talent and the intellectual capacity to achieve greatness, being a leader is beyond being capable to excel. A leader, one of course that is successful in bringing contentment and success, will possibly be one of very few people that understands most, if not all, of his or her people. A leader is empathic and a risk taker. In my opinion, I don't think it is impossible to train yourself to become leader. However, some people are meant to be leaders. The qualities that they are born and brought up with push them towards helping groups of people succeed as a whole. Their unselfishness brings them to a higher level, making them a better leader.

    1. This is a very thoughtful comment. You suggest that understanding the feelings of others is a major key to leadership. We should consider this idea more as we continue the term.

In my opinion,Leaders are made not born! With just the right skill, attitude and ambition. And the requirements to become a leader is to have the heart of a leader and Commitment to Excellence and a very strong work ethic to improve their leadership skills.

In my opinion, I think that everyone can be a leader. I've seen lots of people become leaders by some inevitable situations such as selected by friends or teachers, however they did a really good job. Therefore, this kind of experience makes me think that becoming a leader is not that hard to accomplish, with lots of practices and determination, gain more experience ,everyone could be an excellent leader.

    1. Yes... and sometimes there is just no choice, and you need to adapt to that role. It is surprising how well people can lead if they have to.

Most people these days often think that being a leader means to only order lower people, but it is definitely wrong. I believe that being a leader means leaders have to truly understand their comrades, leading them with great abilities, high determination, and such a strong responsibility. Great leaders need to have strong opinion when they need to decide somethings for their teams, but they also need to listen and care about others too. So, being a leader is not a thing that all people can do, for some people have a lack of sympathy to others.

In my opinion, i do not think that everyone can be a leader. Because being a leader means to follow certain strict rules and some people can not do that. Being a leader you have to understand the people yours guiding, giving them motivations, encouraging them. Only a few are truly good at these skills. With great power comes great responsibilities, and therefore it is not a thing that everyone can do

I personally think that not everyone could be a leader. Some of them might be raised as a leader as in the ancient time that the leaders of any country or tribe would raise their children as the leaders of next their generations. Nevertheless, some people are calm and unambitious which are not the properties of the leaders whereas some people might were born with powerful and enthusiastic traits which are good qualities of the leaders. I did not agree that anyone could be the leaders as we are the humans and there is normal for the socialize animal that in the large groups. There are always the leaders and followers. Some of us were born as the leaders and some of us were born as the followers. Moreover, I do think that the leaders and the followers are equal because the leaders would not be anything without their members as the followers would not be meaningless without their captains.

    1. This is a good comment. It seems that in our cultures, we need leaders. If there were no leaders, maybe the society would fall apart.

  13. In my opinion, there are some abilities and genius that promote people to become a leader. Therefore, not everyone could become a leader people mostly became a leader because their parents have created to their generation so they born to be a boss by accident. However, leadership does not mean only to order workers, but it consist of understanding and be able to control their workers. Moreover, only a few figure that they are proficient leaders because great leaders require thought , responsibility, leadership etc., which not everyone have these abilities.

I think anyone could be a be a leader, but it doesn't mean that everybody will be a good leader. The most two important things for a leader are leadership and self-confident in order to make decisions. On the other hand, being a good leader is much harder. A good leader has to be a role model for his crew members. As a result, everyone can be a leader. It depends on how they behave, in order to make the leader a good leader.
