Writing is hard. Writing takes time. Writing takes effort and care, and it is a riddle of rules and wrongs. You have to worry about capitalization, punctutation: commas and comma splices. Run on sentences... Fragments... Adjective phrases... Participials... partici- WHAT!!??Why would anyone like writing? Well... I guess it is because it is the way we make words last. It is the way we record the things we think. When we say something out loud, we usually forget what we said later. Written words stick. Written words matter. Writing is important. Writing is hard.

ReplyDeleteEssays, articles or anything that involve writing, I will always put my best effort to make my writing perfect using what I got. But, it does not always turns out to be what I want.
Mistakes such as repeating the same argument can really be my number one pest here. Sometimes for me It is really hard to develop ideas with clear supporting explanations when I am being pressured by the time specified and the surrounding. When I'm stuck, it is effortlessly easy for me to repeat the same explanation without noticing using a paraphrase form which I believe I'm doing it here somewhere in this journal.
Since English is not my first language, I can not fully command it. This leads to another my weakness, it can be difficult for me at some point trying to express what I actually have in mind into another language using a beautiful alliteration with fancy words and expression. However, that it is not the toughest part. The most annoying part that could ever bother me in writing is to maintain the exact definition of what I think after translating it into English. Anyway, I believe that these kind of weaknesses can be minimized through experiences of writing lots and lots of essay.

DeleteI think my weakness in writing is that my argument is clear for me but other people cannot understand what I write about. It is difficult to make my thought into writing because language in talking is different from writing which means writing should be academic words. Therefore, I have tough time to think about vocabulary should I use in the essay.

We feel boring when we have to do writing and this is because we have to be accurate in grammar, if we make many mistakes in grammar it will make our writing become worthless for readers to read. There are many types of weakness in writing rather than grammar. For instance, brain storm, understanding the question and vocabulary. Other than grammar, my weakness in writing is vocabulary. Sometime, it is very complex for Thai students to write the sentences that will tell the exactly meaning to teacher. Otherwise, our writing can make the readers misunderstand and if this occurs in the exam time, we could probably fail because of not answer a question. Therefore, my weakness in writing other than grammar is vocabulary.

ReplyDeleteThe most problematic issue I have in writing aside from grammar is how to develop on the idea at hand. Sometimes, I would just run out of idea to make the topic legit. Another I'm having problem with would be how to keep my writing interesting. It's really hard to try and write a whole paragraph that would keep the readers' interest and still convey the message properly.
Thank you for this. Never give up on an idea. Even if you think you're being clear, you can always be clearer. There is always another example or a better illustration. You may not need "more" ideas... you just need to keep developing one idea.

This is a normal problem. If someone doesn't understand what you're "saying" when you speak, what do you do? You explain in another way. You can do this in writing too.
DeleteThere are so many mistakes or weaknesses out of grammatical errors that I always make in my essays. Unclear and lifeless topics occur frequently. Having a lack of wonderful organization such as two ideas in one paragraph is usually seen, so details in my writing do not flow sometimes. Fancy vocabulary is hardly found in my writing. Generating my idea into writing gonna be incredibly hard for me. These are just some of my writing weaknesses.

Writing can be beautiful without fancy vocabulary. Look at the essay "Everything is Fiction." There is little fancy vocabulary. It is simple. Very simple. And wonderful to read.
DeleteMy greatest weakness in my ability to write is putting many ideas in a paragraph when I should focus on only an idea. This problem always happens to me because I sometimes write too general idea, which I have to bring other ideas into the paragraph to support what I am trying to explain to the readers. However, it can also make that paragraph go out of the main idea and affects to the readers’ understanding.

This a normal problem. If you are too general, you're at risk of having no meaning. You will always make it easier for YOU if you can be more specific.
DeleteSynonym is my weakness when i write the essay. Because i think that the word that has the same meaning, it can use every situations. In fact, some words cannot use in some cases, so the readers can misunderstand when they read my essay. Furthermore, hook sentence is another weakness for me because it is the first sentence that catch the reader to interest my essay and want to read it.

This is a good comment. And it has no easy answer. Read many examples to see how people write. Find a favourite writer and study how he/she does it. What is the style? Work to imitate other writers and you will slowly develop your own way.
DeleteI think that writing is a process of transformation thoughts, ideas for the reader to be able to understand what is written. The transformation of my ideas is always the hardest part for me. This is because to choose the right word to express my thought for the reader to comprehend is difficult.

DeleteApart from grammar, spelling and vocabulary choice are my big concerns while writing. For spelling, it is not just a long or difficult vocabulary that I usually misspell, but a simple one. To illustrate, I often make mistake between the word 'weather'' and the word 'whether'. For vocabulary choice, I sometimes find it hard to choose the right and appropriate word to describe something or some actions.

Interesting. Spelling is something that is very easy for some people and very difficult for others. It is also easy to confuse words in English: whether/weather, there/their/they're, desert/dessert, etc. You will need to study the differences and take care because Spell Check will not save you for those problems.
DeleteGathering the ideas together to make the essay eye-cacthing to the reader is my writing weakness. Most of the time I wrote just a general statement that doesn't look interesting at all. It is pretty hard for me to picture my ideas to the readers. Moreover, I sometimes wrote the same ideas in two paragraph. I can't think about other arguments. It makes me off topic sometimes.

It happens to me too sometimes... so what do I do? Yes, I brainstorm. If that doesn't work, I leave it for a day, and think about it and talk to myself. This usually produces some ideas. If not, I invite a friend for a coffee and we chat and usually something new pops up... there are many strategies for getting ideas into our mind and on to the page.
DeleteIn my opinion, there are many weakness points in my writing. For instance, I have a big problem about introduction, I am always stuck with it. Moreover, sometimes my essay is not clear enough because it is hard to explain what I thought into words. It is difficult to generate ideas and make it looks perfectly in paragraph. As I have a lot of grammar mistakes and lack of vocabulary, thus it is the worse thing to make my essay has a good quality.

You're describing the Writing Process. The Introduction is the hardest paragraph to write. You shouldn't worry about anything else until you're happy with the Intro. If the Intro is good, it should lead a clear path for the rest of the essay to follow.
DeleteMy writing weakness is the grammatical, writing structure, vocabulary which are the most important parts for writing a good essay. In addition, I always miss some common mistakes which reduce the quality of my essay. Finally, I spend too much on introduction, and I do not have any time to finish the whole essay. Planning and organizing is key. Sometimes we can write without a plan, but often not. It sounds boring to plan, but it will save your life later when you have to write in a short time (like in an in-class essay).

Writing takes time. Writing in the last minute will almost always result in poor work. Start early. Give it time to breathe. Read and re-read... because good writing is never perfect.

This is a good comment. Sometimes understanding the question is the most important point. Often, writers may not follow the point of the task. Take your time to make sure you understand the point before you continue and miss the point.
DeleteIn my perspective, my weakest point is always been the unorganized paragraph that I always rushing to get it done. Moreover, I sometimes use wrong vocabulary that does not match the sentence.
