Journal Blog #3: What is your Area of Interest?
At this mid-point of our very fast Summer term, we have read 6 different essays and considered a variety of themes and ideas. Now, it is your job to jump from these ideas with your own interests.
In Journal Blog #1, you wrote about your Major and why you were interested in that subject. The best topics for a Final Essay can combine your own interests in your Major with the themes we have been looking at so far in ERS: Technology, Leadership, Health, Art, Inspiration, and Culture. Work to link your own interests with one of these themes to create a narrow topic for an essay of 2-3 pages.

ReplyDeleteTechnology is a very interesting as it has changed the world a lot. Transportation, communication, and medical treatment etc. have improved considerably since modern technology stepped in. Since my major is about modern technology, there is no doubt that my area of interest is technology and to be more specific, it is the involvement of technology in modern medical field. Basically, I am really interested in how technology is helping doctors/physicians to diagnose a patient's syndrome or how it is being used to treat patient with serious disease. You can see that nowadays a lot of new advance technology is being equipped to many hospital. But the important point is that these hi-tech stuffs have proved themselves to be extremely useful.

ReplyDeleteI am very interested in technology. I amazed when i see people invented new technology, and adapted these new technology into their daily life. I have a dream that I want to invent something that could help other people. I do not want to see people get risk because of the jobs such as fireman. Also, i am very interested how technology helping us to reveal the secret of the planet. For example, scientists would send a hi-tech robot to the Jupiter's moon to find a the living things by drilling the ice sheet over 10 metres. But they cannot do this experiment , they need more advance technology than today to done this project.
Well you have different ideas here... what is interesting (I think) is technological development that minimizes "risk". Could you write an essay about a particular technology that makes risky jobs (like firemen or astronauts) safer?
DeleteI am interested about technology because these days advance technology is become an essential part that could contribute to the growth of business. Moreover, high-tech manufacturing or the of used high technology to produce the products can also cut out or reduce toxic waste, waste disposal, and other sorts of ancillary problems that affect the environment and societies. Further than clean productions, profitable can be count as another advantage of using high technology because advance technology enable suppliers to produce high standard products and have less products that are unqualified.

This is a good start. Maybe you can focus on a particular technology that is making manufacturing and waste disposal cleaner. Choose an industry... choose a technology. This could work.
DeleteMy area of interest is leadership. Since my major is international business, I am more focus on a successful large company, which has a good leader that can run the company well. When I think of a well known business, I always have a question in my mind that how a large business can run so smoothly for most of the time, when there are so many areas to be focus on and control. Moreover, I am interested that why some large companies went collapse, but some aren’t when the leaders use the same basic method, namely management and organization.

Yes... so you will need to focus on just one area of managment to write about. It is about how to motivate workers? Inspire workers? Push them? Penalize them when they're not working hard enough? Make a choice and narrow down.
DeleteI am interesting in leadership because it play an important part of every company. Without leaders, companies can collapse because there is no one making goal for the companies. Leaders are people who make companies move on. They have to control all employees in firm and crate projects or methods for the growth of companies. The questions are how they do it, control more than 200 people and organize companies. Few are successful, but many are not.

I go to the gym all weekdays, spend 2 hours in there. and I think working out is paying back in term of better health but most people might let their health behind and gonna be interested in anything else which makes them richer, wiser, and more popular. I think it is not a wise decision. Managing yourself controlling yourself before knowing anything else.

This is a good start. You seem to be talking about priorities in life. Is it more important to develop your body (your health, fitness, diet, etc.) or to develop your career (making money, saving money, investing money, etc.)? This is an interesting question. Can you answer it?

I am interest to hoe the technology can relate to marketing. Hi-technology either helps the marketing business wealth-fare. It makes a lot of profit to them. If you can make a great amount of money, but you do not take care of yourself, you will lose money for medical treatment. DeleteThe main reason that I am majoring in film production is because art is my area of interest. For me, art is fascinating since it allows me to express my thoughts through my actions. It allows me to paint what is in my mind and play any rhythm according to my mood. Furthermore, I believe that art improves cultural appreciation and awareness. DeleteI am interested in culture because many years ago Thai cultures have changed. There are many negative issues that impact Thai cultures. As my major is social science, I would like to study about Thai cultures that have changed in modern society, and I would like to know what are the reasons that have changed our believes and our old traditions. In fact, there is an interesting way to combine Health and Tourism. There is a whole industry developed around Health Tourism. People from around the world travel to Thailand for operations because of the high quality care and the cheaper prices. Not only that, countries (like Korea and Thailand) attract a lot of tourists who come for plastic surgery operations. This may interest you.
DeleteMy chosen major in college is Entertainment Media: Animation Production and my area of interest would be in their art and culture style of how each animation is produced. By having viewed a lot of animated movies, and anime I have seen a lot of cultural references in each of the film. They contain cultural etiquette, history, and believes which gives a very unique presence to each of the film. This is what I always look for in a "good" film.
